ABOUT THE CLASS
Los Angeles based comedian and writer Emily Blackwell (Groundlings; creator of Fringe favorite “Show ‘Em Your Best with Tensil Newbottom!”; Just For Laughs New Faces Characters Showcase) instructs this exciting character class for all-levels.
You will learn techniques to find characters that are interesting and fun for you to play, sharpen your existing wheelhouse, or to stretch the limits of your physical container and voice to become characters who are radically different from not only yourself, but from characters you might have previously played.
Basic Improv training required. Please wear clothes and shoes you can easily move in.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Emily Day Blackwell is a SAG- AFTRA member and co-founder of Monday Nights Theatre Company (check out MNTC's inaugural season this summer in Waterbury Center, VT).
Emily recently wrapped as a series regular on the indie multicam sitcom ROOMIES and a co-star on Netflix’s THE BROTHER'S SUN.
Emily was in the writers room for Roomies this past season and has been in the comedy scene on the west coast for over 10 years.
You can catch her live, performing her one-woman show, featuring an original character named Tensil Newbottom, a larger than life southern love guru/life coach - inspired (loosely!) by her mom.
Emily additionally performs improv, clown, and sketch comedy all over LA, at venues such as The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Elysian, and The Lyric Hyperion.

Policies & Procedures
Covid-19 Policy: Vaccinations and boosters are recommended but not required. Masking is at the student’s discretion.
Cancellation Policy: We will refund 100% of tuition for cancellations made 14 days (or more) before the start of any class. Tuition cannot be refunded on cancellations made fewer than 14 days before the class. Contact us if you wish to cancel.
Concerns About Payment? If you have the desire to learn, we want you to have the opportunity! We frequently offer installment plans and partial or full scholarships (need-based and diversity). If you are having trouble affording this class, contact us to work out an arrangement.
