ABOUT THE CLASS
One of the main tentpoles of the curriculum at Upright Citizen's Brigade is "the game", which is the unusual aspect of an improv scene that is explored for comedy. It's also one of the most commonly misunderstood and tough aspects for students at the start of their improv journey.
In this workshop, Ify and Jeff are going to help you understand how to identify the game and explore it with your scene partners. Working through the different ways it may present itself, along with the varied opportunities to interact with in scenes.
Suitable for all skill levels.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ify Nwadiwe has a whole lot of hyphens! He does stand-up comedy (catch his solo standup show at Big Pond on Friday night!) and also acts in shows such as Workaholics, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and Adam Ruins Everything. He performs improv with The Big Team at UCB.
He is also a writer, working on shows such as Twisted Metal, Grand Crew, and Tigtone, and on video games like Apex Legends and Borderlands 4.He is the host of the nerdiest Panel show on the internet, Um, Actually on Dropout TV.
Jeff Whitaker is an improviser and sketch comedian living in Los Angeles by way of Austin. Jeff’s sketch comedy has been featured in San Francisco Sketch Fest, Chicago Sketch Fest, Moontower Comedy Festival and received a writeup in Vulture.
In 2018, his sketch “Nice Ass” premiered at SXSW and was a Vimeo Staff pick.
Currently, Jeff produces and performs in the monthly show Fuck This Month featuring some of LA’s best improvisers.
Policies & Procedures
Covid-19 Policy: Vaccinations and boosters are recommended but not required. Masking is at the student’s discretion.
Cancellation Policy: We will refund 100% of tuition for cancellations made 14 days (or more) before the start of any class. Tuition cannot be refunded on cancellations made fewer than 14 days before the class. Contact us if you wish to cancel.
Concerns About Payment? If you have the desire to learn, we want you to have the opportunity! We frequently offer installment plans and partial or full scholarships (need-based and diversity). If you are having trouble affording this class, contact us to work out an arrangement.
